Dr. Sasha Kramer
Dr. Kramer started her lab at Boston University in the Department of Earth & Environment in July 2025. She received her Ph.D. in Marine Science from UC Santa Barbara in 2022 and was a Simons Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow in Marine Microbial Ecology at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI) from 2022-2025. She is an instructor for the NASA Ocean Optics Workshop, and loves opportunities to engage with students. At BU, Dr. Kramer teaches Biological Oceanography and Remote Sensing. The Kramer Lab is part of the Biogeoscience, BUMP, and URBAN programs, and collaborates with the Microbiome Initiative and Center for Remote Sensing at BU. Outside of her scientific research, Dr. Kramer spends her time reading, baking, and being active in nature on foot & on bikes!
Dr. Rejane (Jane) Paulino
Jane received her Ph.D. in Biosystems Engineering from Mississippi State University in August 2026 and then joined Boston University as a postdoctoral associate in the Kramer Lab. Dr. Paulino’s research focuses on expanding our understanding of phytoplankton community composition by exploring new opportunities enabled by NASA’s PACE mission. Jane is particularly fascinated by the intersection of remote sensing and aquatic systems, as well as new ways to represent the dynamics and interactions of in-water optical components. Outside her scientific research, Jane enjoys reading, writing, and hiking.
Emily Hu
Emily is a Ph.D. student in Earth & Environment working in the Kramer Lab at Boston University. She has a BA in Chemistry from Rutgers University and was a 2024-2026 C-CoMP Bridge-to-PhD Fellow. Emily’s research focuses on observing the distribution and composition of phytoplankton communities across variable ocean environments through molecular and optical approaches. Outside of research, she enjoys reading a good book, crafting, and birdwatching.
Logan Rajah
Logan graduated from BU with a bachelor's in Earth & Environmental Science and a master's in Remote Sensing and Geospatial Sciences. He is currently a research associate in the Kramer and Gopal labs. In the Kramer Lab, he is using PACE observations to analyze spatial and seasonal variability in phytoplankton and to cluster the Gulf of Maine into distinct optical water types. Outside of remote sensing, Logan enjoys hiking, playing squash, and keeping up with chess.
Cami Webb
Cami majored in Biology and Earth & Environmental Science at BU before becoming a postbaccalaureate Research Technician in the Dietze Lab in 2026. She collaborates with the Kramer Lab on forecasting chlorophyll-a concentrations in the Gulf of Maine using satellite and in-situ buoy observations. Outside of the lab, Cami loves hunting for sea shells, fishing, and reading on the beach!
Isabella Alcott
Isabella is a fourth year undergraduate student studying Environmental Analysis & Policy at BU. Her Honors research focuses on understanding how wildfire ash deposits influence phytoplankton bloom dynamics off the coast of California, using remote sensing and machine learning to develop predictive frameworks that link wildfire disturbances to marine ecosystem responses. Outside of the lab, Isabella enjoys exploring nature and pottery making!
